Police looking for European Belarus’ coordinator

Maksim Viniarski is accused of “insulting an official”.

Soviet PD policemen attempted to break into the apartment of the European Belarus coordinator’s mother yesterday, and today they called his relatives and demanded to report of his whereabouts.

The charter97.org web-site learnt about that from Maksim Viniarski’s sister Alena.

“Senior inspector of the Soviet district’s police department Vital Paulouski called today in the morning. He asked whether he could speak with Maksim. I said that he could not and asked what he needed him for. The policeman said that an appeal had been submitted on the occasion that Maksim insulted an official whilst the latter was carrying out his duty. Vital Paulouski also claimed that brother had been summoned to the police department with a subpoena, but none of us had seen any”, - Maksim Viniarski’s sister said.

The activist himself told the charter97.org web-site that he was at large, but would only meet law enforcers when the subpoena was handed in to him.

The responsibility for “insulting an official” is stipulated by the Code on Administrative Violations as well as by the Criminal Code of Belarus. While in the former case one may get away with a fine, then in the latter the insult of an official due to his/her carrying out his/her professional duties is punished with public works, or a fine, or correctional works for the term of up to two years, or an arrest for up to six months or the limitation of freedom for up to three years.
