Russia’sembassy doesn’t know date of Baumgertner’s extradition

The embassy of Russia in Minsk does not possess the information on possible extradition of Uralkali’s director general from Belarus.

The head of the embassy’s consular department Igor Koryagin told that to journalists on Tuesday, Interfax reports.

“We do not have such information, moreover, we did not discuss the issues of extradition at a meeting with him last week”, - he said.

At the same time Igor Koryagin emphasized that the embassy intends to initiate the next meeting with Vladislav Baumgertner in due course. “Such meetings should take place once in two month in the least”, - the embassy’s representative said.

In the meanwhile the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Uladzimir Makej claimed today that the procedure of Baumgertner’s extradition to Russia was taking place and the problem would be solved shortly.

“The respective intergovernmental procedures related to the extradition of that person are being carried out along the lines of our law enforcement agencies, along the lines of the Prosecutor General’s offices. As to the specific date of the extradition I cannot tell you anything concrete, but for what I know, all the necessary formalities have been settled and it is now the matter of trivia”, - Makej said at a press-conference in Moscow.

Makej noted that during the meeting with his Russian colleague Sergei Lavrov the parties agreed that such particular problems should not put a negative mark on the cooperation between the two countries.

Baumgertner was detained in Minsk on 26 August, criminal charges were brought against him. On 14 November Belarus’ Prosecutor General Aliaksandr Kaniuk said that he considered possible Baumgertner’s extradition to Russia.
