Appeal to Czech president against meeting with Lukashenka

7

Belarusians and Czechs held an action on 20 March in Prague Castle, where the residence of Czech Republic’s president Milosh Zeman is situated.

The aim of the action, which was organized by the Belarusian house in Prague and Young European Federalists, was to protest against the repressions in Belarus. Young people lined in the center of Prague with banners, calling for the release of the Belarusian political prisoners.

“Such actions are very needed. These are exactly such street events that make the society pay attention to the problem and even change the politicians’ attitude towards the Belarusian issue, become more active in protecting Belarus”, - the deputy chairman of Young European Federalists, Vladka Elinkova believes.

During the action Vladka Elinkova and Natalia Makovik, the head of the Belarusian house in Prague, passed a letter for Milosh Zeman, in which they called upon the president to put his maxim effort and actively support democratic activists and political prisoners in Belarus. In their appeal the activists reminded that Zeman once on principle refused to meet with Lukashenka and held negotiations with Mikalaj Statkevich instead.

The activists also addressed the president with a request to start negations with Belarusian democratic activists and support the Belarusian days in Prague, which will take place on 18-22 April.
