5

Slonim policemen forbad oppositionists to hold a sporting race alongside the embankment of Ahinski channel, devoted to 95th anniversary of the proclamation of Belarus People’s republic.

When Slonim residents started gathering near the channels embankment, they were surrounded by 6 cars with policemen, spring96.org reports. Although no one left the cars, everyone waited for the event to begin. Later the Slonim residents broke into several groups and crossed a small wooden bridge to the other side of the channel. At that moment a well-known police major Vadzim Shchurski and another policeman came out of one of the cars with video cameras. Other policemen did not take long to join. The participants of the event decided to go away and meet in a private house. In several minites around 25 participants gathered together.

The event took place in a private house and in its yard. A conversation took place about the creation of Belarus People’s Republic, which was told about by a teacher Mikalaj Barysik in an interesting manner. A writer and historian Siarhei Chyhryn focused on the rebellion of 1863. Later the Slonim residents wrote a dictation, read by a retired teacher Mikalaj Rakevich.

Slonim oppositionists congratulated the rest town residents on the holiday. They launched white-red-white balloons into the sky. They attached little national flags to them and leaflets with a text about the history of BPR creation.

We would remind that an action took place in Minsk yesterday, devoted to the anniversary of the proclamation of BPR, which ended with detentions of some participants, including the citizens of Ukraine. They were accused of insubordination to police. The detained, who spent the night behind bars, will be put to trial.
