White-red-white flags in Minsk centre

A national flag was waving above Nyamiha Street in the centre of Minsk this morning.

Hundreds of people could see the flag during the morning rush hour. A rescue team has arrived to remove the flag, Facebook users report.

“Have come to an office in Nyamiha district. There are rescuers with a ladder. Long live Belarus, friends,” an eye-witness wrote.

Belarusians celebrate Freedom Day today – the 95th anniversary of the proclamation of the Belarusian People's Republic.

A rally on this occasion was held in Minsk yesterday. Some demonstrators, including Ukrainian nationals, were detained and accused of disobeying police's orders. They spent the night in a detention centre and will be tried today.
