Belarus leads in Eurasia in price growth

No other country of the continent saw prices growing that fast.

The growth of consumer price indices in Belarus in the first three months of 2013 has significantly exceeded the indicators in European Union and CIS’ countries.

The data published by the National Statistics Committee on 28 March indicate that.

The information has been prepared based on the publications of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, Eurostat, national statistics services and data, published on the internet in accordance with the demands of the IMF’s Special Data Dissemination Standard.

In three months, starting from December 2012, the prices in our country grew for 1.4%. 3% and 1.2% respectively. All these months Belarus remained the absolute leader in price growth. By the end of February 2013 in relation to December 2012 the price growth accounted for 4.3%

For comparison, our closest neighbors had their prices unchanged and dropped in Latvia. Thus, in Russia the three months price growth accounted for 1.5%, in Ukraine – 0.1%, in Poland – 0%, in Lithuania – 0,1%, in Latvia – minus 0.3%.

In relation to the December 2012 in February the most price growth was observed in communications (20.2%), alcohol beverages and tobacco (13.3%) and health care (7.1%).

When comparing the February 2013 with the February 2012, one finds out that food products and non-alcoholic beverages went 18.1% more expensive; alcohol beverages and tobacco grew in price 58/4%; clothes and footwear – 8.4%; utilities, water, electricity, gas and other kinds of fuel – 29.1%; housing items, home appliances and maintenance – 6.4%. The health care (medical services, medicines, medical supplies and equipment) become 27.7% more expensive; transport (transport services, vehicle purchases, personal vehicle exploitation) – 20.8%; communication (communication services, telephone and facsimile equipment) – 51.6%; recreation and cultural events – 17%; education – 31.7% Belarus remained the leader in price growth in all the categories.
