UCP activist’s car detained on border

Viktar Buzinaeu, the chairman of Babruisk city UCP organization, was detained at border crossing point Hovaja Huta, subordinate to Homiel customs office.

The activist told about what happened to the press-service of the United Civic Party:

“My daughter Ksenija won a ticket to a concert of a Finish band in Kiev on the internet. Yesterday we (me, my wife and daughter) went by our car to Ukraine’s capital. After the concert we headed home right away. In the morning we were at the border crossing point Hovaja Huta of Homiel’s customs office.

During a customs inspection they confiscated a brochure “What the European Union can give Belarus” from my car, a book of Nialaeu’s poems and an express-bulletin of the legislation of the Republic of Belarus. A small white-red-flag on the window cause their discontent as well. It seemed to them that these things could undermine the foundations of the Republic of Belarus. Based on that they have detained me and are holding me now at the border crossing point, composing protocols. I have written an explanation letter to them and am waiting for the decision right now”.

We would remind that detentions and inspections of Belarusian oppositionists are not rare at the border crossing point Novaja Huta on the border between Ukraine and Belarus. Activists may be held on the border for several hours with no explanations.
