Polish citizen has not been able to leave Belarus for month

Polish MFA is doing everything possible to reach permission for Tereza Strzelec to leave Belarus.

The press-secretary of the MFA Marcin Bosiacki stated that yesterday. He added that the Polish authorities only found out about the incident, which has started last year, on 6 March, which complicates the opportunities for helping.

Marcin Bosiacki explains that the General Consulate in Brest is dealing with the issue.

Representatives of the Polish authorities also addresses customs office and the MFA of Belarus.

“We are doing everything possible, but we are working within the legal framework, taking into account the decision, made earlier. From our point of view, the problem is that we were informed about the issue almost in a year after it had started”, - the Polish MFA’s press-secretary said. According to Marcin Bosiacki, the reaction of the Belarusian authorities in proportional in relation to the presumed misconduct of the Polish citizen even according to Belarus’ legislation.

We would remind that in the middle of March it became known that a Polish citizen Tereza Strzelec could not leave Bealrus.

A year ago Tereza Strzelec went to Minsk for an excursion. When her car broke, she left it at a maintenance service. A son of the mechanic used the car without permission of the owner and was detained by police. The car was confiscated and sent to a customs’ storehouse. In January the court resolved that the car must be returned to the owners.

But the problem is that before the court’s proceedings customs officers sold Tereza Strzelec’s car. The Polish citizen was offered to get money back with the customs duty and taxes withheld from the amount. She refused to pay and the Belarusian stakeholders annulled her visa, having detained her at the territory of our country.
