The government of Kyrgyzstan plans to take further measures seeking the extradition of the country's former president Kurmanbek Bakiyev and his brother Zhanysh Bakiyev in connection with a verdict of the Military Court.

This statement was made by Kyrgyzstan's Vice Prime Minister Shamil Atakhanov in an interview with AKIpress on May 14.

“We will continue our work. The murder and slaughter are serious charges that the state has no rights to forget and put on the shelf. We are organising a great work relating to the extradition,” he said.

Atakhanov noted a working group had visited Belarus and held talks there determining the first stages of development of relations. “Until recently, we didn't have a possibility of holding talks. This work will be continued,” he said.

Zhanysh Bakiyev have several documents allowing him to travel in Russia and the Baltic States, but his main place of residence is Minsk. We know that for sure,” Shamil Atakhanov said.

The Vice PM notes that former president Kurmanbek Bakiyev also lives in Belarus.

“I believe that justice will win. We have a court ruling and international documents on the extradition. We will seek their extradition. The Kyrgyz side has all legal grounds to do it,” he said.

The family of former president Bakiyev did not stop to back events in Kyrgyzstan, Vice PM Shamil Atakhanov said in his interview with AKIpress on May 14.

According to him, certain groups continue to receive funding. “The volume of funding has perhaps reduced, because they [Bakiev's family] have own expenses. But they financed the activities to oppose the current government and organise extremist groups,” he said.

Atakhanov noted that state security agencies and law-enforcement bodies took measures to stop that kind of activity. “Look at rallies, for example, a rally of Azimbek Beknazarov or any other. No sport or criminal groups participated in them,” the Vice PM said.
