Pafiankou fined 3 million rubles

Minsk's Pershamaiski district court issued a fine to a former political prisoner for violation of the rules of preventive surveillance.

Charter97.org received this information from Vasil Parfiankou.

“Judge Yury Harbatouski issued a fine of 30 penalty units (3 million rubles) over part 2 of article 24.12 of the Code of Administrative Offences (failure to fulfil requirements of the preventive surveillance). Criminal inspector Aliaksei Piarkou came to my place yesterday, but I was out. He made a police report. I had to leave work later. When I came home, district police officer Vadzim Rashatila already waited for me,” the former political prisoner noted.

“After a third warning a criminal case may be initiated against me. But the period of surveillance expires soon. I specified today that it ends in early July. No one has visited me for a month, but they probably saw me greeting Pavel Vinahradau and Uladzimir Yaromenak after their term in custody. The authorities saw that I continue my activity and decided to catch me. You may say it is a manhunt,” Vasil Parfiankou said.

The activist was given a four-year sentence in a medium security penal colony for participating in a rally against the rigged presidential elections in 2010. He was released on Lukashenka's order on August 13, 2011. Four months later, on December 11, 2011, Vasily Parfiankou was detained in Kastrychnitskaya Square, where opposition activists were going to hold a picket to mark the one year anniversary of the presidential elections.

On May 29, the former political prisoner was found guilty of violating the rules of preventive surveillance and sentenced to 6 months in a detention facility in Baranavichy. Vasily Parfiankou was released on February 9.

The period of surveillance for Parfiankou expires in a month.
