Case of beating in Korona hypermarket: CCTV footage disappeared

The Investigation Committee carries out an inquiry into the beating of a customer in Korona hypermarket.

A criminal case may be initiated, says Aliaksandr Vashkevich, who was beaten by security guards on May 9.

He says the CCTV footage from the hypermarket disappeared. Aliaksandr Vashkevich and a police officer from the Frunzenski district police department went to Korona store on May 16. Aliaksandr showed where the incident had taken place and together they defined footage of which security cameras must be obtained. The room, where Vashkevich was beaten, was not equipped with cameras, so security guards felt “at ease”. The door to the backroom, where Aliaksandr was beaten, is monitored by a camera that allows to see everyone entering the room. According to the chief security officer, they had all footage and were ready to give them to the police on request. As policemen later told Aliaksandr Vashkevich, the footage from the camera directed at the door had disappeared, the website of Platform human rights organisation informs.

It should be reminded that security guards of Korona hypermarket brutally beat Aliaksandr Vashkevich after he had decided not to leave alone his friend Dzianis Loktseu detained by guards.

Vashkevich had a concussion, bruises on the face and a fracture of the spinous process of the sixth cervical vertebrae.
