Activist will be held to trial for leaflets on political prisoners in Hrodna

A Hrodna resident Siarhei Vierameenka was called out to a police department and had a protocol composed against him due to his detention on 12 March.

The activist was familiarized with the results of an expertise held by the Ministry of Communications, which indicated that the leaflets with the information about political prisoners and the issues of the Krynica Haradzienskaja newspaper, confiscated from him, did not correspond to certain technical requirements. Because of that a protocol was composed against the member of the organizational committee for the creation of the party Belarusian Christian Democracy Siarhei Vierameenka for disseminating printed products with no outgoing data.

According to policemen, he will soon receive a subpoena obliging him to show up in court. They refused to provide the activist with a copy of the expertise’s results, the BChD’s press-service reports.

Siarhei Vierameenka was detained on 12 March. He was going to the party’s office in Budzionaha street with a bag of leaflets. He was stopped by two men in mufti at the entrance, who introduced themselves as policemen.

Vierameenka was detained in front of the eyes of his party-mates and taken to a police station. There were leaflets with a text supporting political prisoners in the bag of the detained. BChD members were going to disseminate them in the framework of the solidarity campaign “Write to a political prisoner”.
