Fourth day of Hajdukou’s secretive trial

The ‘spy case’ trial will continue today in Viciebsk.

The proceeding starts at 10.00 in Viciebsk regional court.

Andrej Hajdukou’s mother managed to learn from the attorneys that the trial will be going today, and tomorrow, 19 June as well, Radio Svaboda reports.

Tatsiana Sieviaryniec, a coordinator of the organizational committee for the creation of a party Belarusian Christian Democracy, says that the security does not give the schedule of the session to the people, who come to the building of the regional court in Viciebsk to support Hajdukou:

“Yesterday they did not allow me to approach and read the schedule on the notice board on the first floor of the regional court’s building. Probably, they are indeed afraid of some steps on the part of activists. It is unclear what steps exactly, since almost no one already gathers before the court apart from people in mufti, who guard the approaches to the building in the nearest bushes. Everyone knows that the process is secretive and it is impossible to get there”, - Sieviaryniec says.

We would remind that the trial of the political prisoner Andrej Hajdukou has started on 12 June. KGB’s chairman Valer Vakulchyk earlier reported that the proceedings will be held in a secretive regime. Andrej Hajdukou is being tried in Viciebsk regional court. The opposition activist was convoyed to the region’s capital on 3 June. His relatives were denied meeting him.

According to the official information, Andrej Hajdukou was detained “when putting information of interest for foreign special services in a hiding place”. Human rights defenders and opposition activists consider this accusation absurd.

The European Belarus civic campaign put forward a statement, which said that the activist was detained for disseminating Charter’97 newspapers. The persecution of Andrej Hajdukou is linked to his oppositional views and explained as an attempt to intimidate youth activists.
