Pinskdrev works four-day week

The factory cut the working week. Workers have been sent on unpaid leave.

The four-day working week was introduced on June 1. The relative order was signed by director general Aliaksandr Sudnik on May 29, Belorusski Partizan reports.

Due to a difficult economic situation, a decrease in consumer demand, the growth of finished goods in stocks and a significant decrease in cash inflow causing problems with providing the plant with raw materials and components, it is ordered to introduce the four-day working week from June 1, 2013, for managers, specialists, office staff and workers of Pinskdrev Holding Company until a special order,” the order of the general director says.

Similar orders will be prepared for private companies and joint ventures founded with participation of Pinskdrev.

The decline in demand caused problems at other big Belarusian enterprises. The four-day working week was introduced at the Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ) in March and April. In accordance with the order of February 25, 2013, working days were moved to autumn.

“The absence of demand for MAZ vehicles has reduced purchasing activity in the Russian and international market that resulted in raising the level of trucks and towed vehicles in stocks. [The decision was taken] in view of adjusting the production output and with the aim of rational using work force, materials and energy resources,” the order said.

As charter97.org learnt from readers, some shops of Horizont plant began to work four-day weeks.

The problem of excess stock at a number of big plants worries both plant executives and the government.

Lukashenka recently shared his ideas regarding the problem of overfilled stocks of auto-making giants. He ordered to sell the produced equipment to collective farms with a 30% discount. The Minsk city executive committee ordered Minks companies to help unload stocks.
