Jury Khashchavatski: We have been concrete casted, but there is hope

The worst thing about the 19 years of Lukashenka’s rule is the waste of time.

This is how a film director Jury Khashchavatski commented for the charter97.org web-site on Lukashenka’s coming to power 19 years ago.

“A lot has changed in these 19 years. I think people have become much angrier, people have become more ignorant, people have started losing moral principles. The state is being built on the principles of personal loyalty, as opposite to legitimacy. This situation teaches people hypocrisy. As a rule, lower management copies the upper management. Thus rudeness, evil, mendacity and corruption flow from one person down the society ladder. It is disgusting to call this person a president, since he is not a president. He may be called a usurper, but it was Napoleon, so the best we get is a collective farm Napoleon”, - the director believes.

He highlighted that everyone knows everything about the authorities, however they are afraid to talk.

“Then, in 1994, people used to express their opinions, and now the majority goes with their eyes looking down. This has seriously thrown Belarus back. It is only the matter of economy, since it can always be improved, it is the matter of consciousness and brain, of morality and principles”, - Jury Khashchavatski stated.

He is sure that the worst thing about these 19 years is significant waste of time.

“We could have rushed forward, could have been living today better than the Poles. Then, at the beginning of the 90-ies, they lived worse than us. But today I look at our western neighbors with joy, because they have reached a lot within a short period of time.

Belarus has lagged behind to an impressive degree, many have started perceiving themselves imperial Russia’s younger brothers. Many think today that nothing at all is possible without Russia. Lukashenka has sold Belarusians into slavery, and it only becomes stronger”, - the direct is convinced.

Nevertheless, Jury Khashchavatski looks into the future with optimism.

“Very serious and well-educated young forces have grown in this time, devoted to the idea of a really independent Belarus. The future is theirs, of course. This future is being born now, and they try to destroy it, put it in prisons etc. But is absolutely obvious that a hope is sprouting from underneath the asphalt and concrete under which the whole nation was casted”, - Jury Khashchavatski summed up.
