Carl Bildt on Makej’s visit: We want to hear what they are ready to do

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden reminded what Brussels was expecting from Belarusian authorities.

Carl Bildt told Radio Svaboda about the aim of inviting Uladzimir Makej to the meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of the EU member-states and Eastern Partnership participating countries.

- The most interesting is what they will tell. The Eastern Partnership gives suggestions and opens opportunities, but we demand political reforms on their part. We hold these meetings to listen to what they are ready to do, - Sweden’s Foreign Minister said.

- What do you want them to do before the Eastern Partnership summit in November?

- This does not limit itself with November perspective. This is broader, and we have put forward very clear demands – the release and exoneration of political prisoners.

We would remind that today the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Uladzimir Makej is taking part in the meeting of the heads of MFAs of Eastern Partnership members in Brussels.
