The performance of the Free Theatre - live

Live streaming will begin today, August 25, at 17:30 Belarusian time (15:30 BST).

Following the critically acclaimed London premiere of their award-winning production Trash Cuisine, LIFT is live streaming the Edinburgh performance of the show on 25 August on the LIFT website and Charter97.org.

Belarus Free Theatre say: We wanted to make this performance accessible to international audiences, in particular those in Belarus, opposing censorship and supporting freedom of expression and human rights. Belarus Free Theatre will do their first live stream as an act of political defiance. It's a revolutionary event for people in Belarus who are cut off from information and culture from the outside. Our audience in Belarus is the bravest audience in the world and we dedicate this performance to them.

Banned from performing in their home country, Belarus Free Theatre serve up food, music, dance and Shakespeare as they share true stories from inmates, executioners, human rights lawyers and families of the executed.

This provocative and urgent show pierces the imagination with moments of the darkest humour as it challenges capital punishment in our contemporary world, where 95 countries still carry out the death penalty.
