Organisers of an action of solidarity with Belarusian civil society were attacked in Kyiv.
Masked people tore down pictures of Belarusian protests and posters demanding to release political prisoners in Mariinsky Park in Kyiv, where activists yesterday marked the International Day of Solidarity with Civil Society of Belarus, Radio Svaboda reports.
While unknown people were tearing down the pictures, a young man, who said his name was Yuri Kleinos, shouted through a loudspeaker that organisers of the exhibition wanted to ruin relations between Ukraine and Belarus. He said he didn't know the masked people and added they didn't come with him.
“Space of Free Belarus” is an action on the International Day of Solidarity with Civil Society of Belarus organised by the Centre for Civil Liberties, Amnesty International in Ukraine and International Human Rights Film Festival.
Last year's day of solidarity with Belarusian civil society was marked for the first time on occasion of the one-year anniversary of the arrest of Belarusian human rights activist Ales Bialiatski.
