Court upholds eviction from historical house in central Brest

Leninski District Court of Brest dismissed the complaint of residents of the house in Ostrovsky Street, 10 who challenged the decision of Brest City Executive Committee.

According to it the it was declared that the house was in the state of emergency.

According to a resident of the house Valiantsina Maltsava, it was quite noticeable during the court sitting that the court took into account only the arguments of the authorities, whereas the arguments of the inhabitants of the house were ignored. In particular, the latter ones tried to prove that the building, which has a historical and cultural value, and was not properly examined with respect to its emergency condition. The idea of a sudden and forced eviction of its inhabitants to some apartments in some remote suburbs came to the minds of the local authorities after the conclusion of an investment contract with a commercial firm. "Of course, we will appeal the decision to the regional court,” says Valiantsina Maltsava. “However, we are always being told not to waste our money, as we will be evicted anyway. It is terrible to hear how the authorities calmly declare that the house is in the state of emergency, whereas earlier they did nothing to keep it in a proper condition, though it is a historical and cultural value”.

The habitants of the house in Astrouski Street, 10 intend to pass through all court instances in defending their rights.
