Fiadynich: “Piatkevich bears the same relation to trade unions as I bear to ballet”

Henadz Fiadynich, the leader of the Electronics Trade Union, comments on the rumours that Natallia Piatkevich may be appointed head of the Trade Union Federation.

He told it to Salidarnasts.

“As far as I know, atallia Piatkevich's employment history has nothing to do with trade unions. She bears the same relation to trade unions as I bear to ballet,” Henadz Fiadynich says ironically. “Kozik didn't have enough experience to head the Federation, but the task was to give this post to a person from Lukashneka's administration.”

Fiadynish does not rule out that Piatkevich may replace Kozik.

“I have no doubts that the Federation will be headed by someone close to the government. I don't think the Federation will become more democratic with a new head. I am sure that the authorities won't allow a free expression of will at the election of the federation head. The organisation is under tight control. It is ruled by the people who know nothing about trade unions.

As far as I know, Kozik created a vertical power system. A new head, whoever it may be, will change it, but most principles of the Federation work will remain the same. Sector trade union will remain nominal. They will deal with sports and culture and sign tariff agreements. Employees of sector trade unions have high salaries, more than 1,000 dollars. Why should they think how to protect workers?” Henadz Fiadynich says.
