Worker on hunger strike taken to first-aid post in Babruisk

The worker of Babruisk plant of tractor parts and units, Henadz Labachou, got a high blood pressure.

He was among those discharged, who participated in a hunger strike, reports BelaPAN.

“Henadz Labachou was on hunger strike at the workplace; he was released from work and taken for medical examination. He got a pressure 200/100. That was the result of starving”, tells Mikhail Kavalkou, the chairman of plant organization.

Maintenance person of 6 category, Henadz Labachou said that starvation caused health deterioration. “I was taken to the first-aid post when the managers got doubts on my state of health. I got a high blood pressure. Now I have a disability leave up to November 12”, tells the worker.

“The administration tried to put me on suspension, telling that “we won’t stand the starvation”. When I was kicked out of the plant my pass card was blocked”, said Labachou. Taking into account his health deterioration the activist decided to give up participating in the hunger strike.

As far as the other participants are concerned they will continue the hunger strike on November 11. “We will keep starving. But we haven’t found a place for it yet. For sure, they won’t reinstate us in the job but will keep a hunger strike then make up an address for other people to know what they should wait for”, said Mikalai Zhibul.

According to Kavalkou, at present the main result of this hunger strike is to pay attention to this problem. “At first we thought that “court nobilities” are bad, but “Father the Tsar” is good. That is why we intended that if Lukashenka didn’t read our address then we should strive for him to read it. But now I’m sure “Father the Tsar” knows the situation. And he is just doing nothing. That is how our president cares about the citizens”, said the leader of the trade union.

He pointed out that in the nearest future the hunger strike participants would decide what to do next.

On November 5 Mikalai Zhibul, Aleh Shauchenka, Aliaksandr Varankin and Aliaksandr Hramyka, the members of the Belarusian Independent Trade Union, have started a hunger strike at Babruisk City Council, claiming to satisfy their constitutional right to work. They had to leave the building twice at police and civil servants’ bidding. November 6 four of the striker continued the demonstration not far from control room Babruisk plant of tractor parts and units. They stopped their strike for a week end but continued it on November 10. Two more plant workers joined them. Yesterday two discharged participants were taken to police office where they were warned in oral form about possible responsibility for unauthorized strike.
