State Border Committee thinks Belarusians are “Russians”

91

A strange article appeared on the website of the State Border Committee.

The Belarusians are the Russians, too, though their nationality doesn't bear this proud title, Nasha Niva writes.

“Representatives of western states have been asking themselves for centuries what is the motive power of Russian soldiers. Neither the invasion of Napoleon's troops nor two world wars could break the Slavs. On the contrary, they made them stronger and tougher.

The motive power of the Victory is the unique spiritual force that has been cultivated year by year, century by century not only in those titled Russians, but also in representatives of Belarus and Ukraine who have been sharing their historical joys and sorrows for many centuries.”

The author of the article seems not to differentiate the Belarusians from the Russians and the history of Belarus from the history of Russia. The wars he mentions were a catastrophe for Belarus. The country was a bloody battlefield, an object of occupation and a small coin; it was ruined three times. We can only imagine how much better our country would have been without the mentioned wars.
