Prosecutor General Kaniuk: We need to make work those who hang around and do nothing

Aliaksandr Kaniuk told members of parliament how to struggle against “social parasites”.

The main goal is to make work loiterers, the prosecutor general said. Belarus's prosecutor general Aliaksandr Kaniuk said it today in the “house of representative”, BelTA reports.

“The main thing is to make work those who hang around and do nothing. This is the main problem. It's hard to solve it,” Aliaksandr Kaniuk stressed.

The prosecutor general said how to find such people among Belarusians.

“Social parasites are those who do not work and, of course, those who do not pay taxes. Why you and I should pay for education or medical services for a person who does not have any relation to our state? We will deal with the tax issue. The main thing is to make work those who are social parasites in the literal sense of the word,” he said.

The Minsk city executive committee said earlier it would lobby amendments to legislation that would allow making certain categories of “social parasites” work. The measure is to hit debtors first of all. The police are working on a package of measures to solve the issue of the employment of unemployed people.

Officials have been inventing sophisticating methods of getting money from “social parasites”, whose number reaches 140,000 people. They propose to jail them or to deprive them of free medical services and education or to impose a tax of 1,000 dollars a year. The measures are to be applied to all adults who haven't paid taxes for more than 6 months.
