Third execution in Belarus this year

Homel resident Aliaksandr Hrunau has been executed.

Viasna human rights centre learnt it from his mother Volha Hrunava on November 4.

Volha Hrunava told human rights defenders that she received a notice from the post office saying she had a parcel. The parcel contained Aliaksandr's clothes he was wearing in the condemned cell in prison.

It became known the day before that Aliaksandr Hrunau was denied clemency. His case with the relevant stamp was sent to the Homel regional court on October 13.

Student Pavel Sialiun, 23, and Ryhor Yuzepchuk, 45, were executed in April. Human rights defenders report about another inmate on the death row – 54-year-old Eduard Lykau.

On September 20, 2012, Hrunau killed student Natallia Yemialyanchykava. He said at the trial the girl had insulted him in a company of his friends and hadn't apologised later. It provoked his aggression. He inflicted 102 stab wounds on the girl.
