Myasnikovich asks EU to lift sanctions

Belarus expects the European Union to lift restrictions for the work with financial organisations of the country.

Such a statement has been made by the head of the Belarusian government Mikhail Myasnikovich at the plenary session of the, BelTA reports.

“We hope that the next move will be lifting restrictions on capital flow, and it will be a logical decision,” Myasnikovich said.

He noted that Belarus and the EU have already built “a rather active dialogue”, and added that the European Union has already adopted “a number of positive decisions” concerning Belarus.

The head of the government also reminded that the Belarusian side discussed an opportunity of lifting restrictions on capital flow on the part of the EU during the Belarusian-US investment forum, recently held in New York.

“There is an understanding that steps should be taken towards lifting all restrictions in the work with the Belarusian financial institutions and other organizations,” said Mikhail Myasnikovich.

As said by the Prime Minister, there are all grounds to believe that European partners have realized that the policy of sanctions and ultimatums is absolutely futile. One cannot build normal relations this way.

As it was informed, on October 30 the Council of the European Union by its ruling extended the term of sanctions against Belarus until October 31, 2015. At the same time, the list of the Belarusian citizens on the black list, against whom restrictive measures are continued, was reconsidered. The sanctions have been lifted for 24 individuals and 7 business entities.

At the same time, the EU stressed that “this decision does not reflect any changes in the EU policy towards Belarus, as it was stated in the conclusions of the Council as of October 15, 2012.”

“The EU upholds its policy of critical interaction with Belarus, which is aimed at promotion of respect to human rights, rule of law and democratic principles in Belarus,” the message of the press-service of the Council of the EU noted.
