SBU detains Luhansk woman ‘planning terrorist attack in Kyiv

Ukraine’s SBU state security service has detained a resident of Luhansk who was planning to commit a terrorist attack in the center of Kyiv.

The Chairman of the Security Service of Ukraine Markiyan Lubkivskiy said on Friday at a briefing in Kyiv, according to an UNIAN correspondent.

"With the help of the security forces and the Counterintelligence Department we managed to prevent a terrible tragedy in the city center – a terrorist attack, which was to have been carried out soon," Lubkivskiy said.

"The crime was to be carried out by a resident of Luhansk, Anastasia Kovalenko, who arrived in the Ukrainian capital by bus at 0500 on December 17," he said.

"Due to the SBU’s receiving information about this person, she was arrested at 1030 on the same day.

"The detainee when seized was in possession of an explosive device with three kilograms of TNT.”
