Brest resident fined for poster “Russian army, go home”

Aliaksandr Akhmach was fined 1.5 million Belarusian rubles.

On September 8, the Day of Belarusian Military Glory, he took a photo of himself holding poster “Russian army, go home”. He was summoned to a police station at the end of October and charged with unsanctioned picketing. The trial was scheduled for November 28, Nasha Niva reports.

Aliaksandr Akhmach asked to postpone the trial. He later filed a motion asking to hear the case in absentia. He also pointed that under law, the period of limitation for initiating administrative proceedings is two months. It expired on November 9.

Judge Sviataslau Kalina ignored this argument and issued a fine of 1.5 million rubles.

Aliaksandr Akhmach wanted to read the reasoning part of judgment to file an appeal, but it turned out that it is absent.

Aliaksandr filed a complaint against the judge.
