Mikalai Statkevich held in solitary confinement

Mikalai Statkevich held in solitary confinement

Former presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich is not sure of his safety in prison. He asked to be moved to a solitary cell.

He wrote it to his wife Maryna Adamovich, Radio Svaboda reports.

He explains he was held in a cell with an inmate, whom the prison authorities promised to punish in case of provocations. Mikalai Statkevich says he didn't have problems with his cellmate.

“I don't want to share the cell with anybody, because I may have safety threats due to the situation outside prison. The economic state is deteriorating. It's getting more expensive to hold me here, but they fear to release me. The probability of surprises increases,” Statkevich wrote.
