Mirnyi progresses in Miami

Max Mirnyi of Belarus got off to a good start at the Sony Open Tennis doubles in Miami.
In the opener the Belarusian-Spanish tandem of Max Mirnyi and Feliciano Lopez outlasted another international duet of Treat Huey of the Philippines and Dominic Inglot of the UK 7-5, 7-6 (7-2). Max Mirnyi and Feliciano Lopez will face Brazil’s Marcelo Melo and Croatia’s Ivan Dodig in the second round.
In the women’s singles Olga Govortsova of Belarus reached the Sony Open main draw after taking a solid 6-2, 6-1 victory over World No.110 Shelby Rogers and outlasting Julia Georges of Germany (92) 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 in the qualification round. In a three-set match of round one the Belarusian rallied past Israel’s Shahar Peer (World.88) 2-6, 6-0, 6-3. In the second round the Belarusian fell to Italy’s Flavia Pennetta (World No.12) in two straight sets 3-6, 3-6.
The competitions on Miami courts will finish on 30 March.
