Seviarynets presents his book in four towns of Brest region

The presentation of Belarusian Depth was held in Ivatsevichy, Zhabinka, Biaroza and Kobryn.

About 20 people came to the meeting with Pavel Seviarynets in Ivatsevichy, Radio Svaboda reports.

The author spoke about his book Belarusian Depth that was written as he was serving a term of compulsory works in the Pruzhany district.

“This book was born practically in the courtroom. I didn't give evidence during the trial. I was thinking and praying... My friends gave evidence and sent their recommendations... One of the recommendations from the World Association of Belarusians Batskaushchyna sounded like that: 'Please, do not imprison Seviarynets. He is a good person. The last time when he was in jail he wrote a book.' I remember that moment: the judge was reading the recommendation, and the prosecutor stood up going to say something with a smile, but changed his mind and sat down. But my heart missed a beat. I understood the prosecutor wanted to say that Seviarynets wrote a book in jail, so he would write another one during his next prison term,” the author says.

The politician said how the book was written and spoke about its characters. The guests received books with the autograph and talked to Pavel Seviarynets about the Belarusian reality, the mentality of the Belarusians and prospects for democratic changes.

Pavel Seviarynets plans to have presentations in Brest, Malaryta, Kamianets and other towns of the Brest region.

Pavel Seviarynets was an activist in the team of presidential candidate Vital Rymasheuski during the 2010 presidential election. He was arrested after a protest rally against the rigged results of the election and charged with organising mass disorders and participating in riots. The politician was sentenced to 3 years of compulsory works in an open-type prison facility. He served his term in the village of Kuplin near Pruzhany.

Seviarynets wrote the book Belarusian Depth during his term. It is a collection of essays about Belarusian villages, history and people of the Pruzhany and Brest districts.
