Lukashenka: Russia doesn't fight with anyone

The Belarusian dictator defends Putin.

Lukashenka said to journalists in Chisinau that Russia didn't want to have any economic wars and it didn't fight in Ukraine, BelTA reports.

“I know psychology, I know Russia's leadership very well. Russia doesn't want to have an economic war against anyone, especially in this situation, he said.

“If Ukraine, Moldova and other countries do not harm Russia after signing the agreement on association with the EU, I am confident that in the near future you will normalise relations with Russia if there is no damage to the Russian economy. Russia is just trying to protect itself in this situation,” Lukashenka noted.

He added that both Russia and Belarus have certain concerns. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko was informed about it during the latest meeting in Minsk. The Ukrainian president was informed about the particular clauses of the association agreement with the EU that raise these concerns. According to Lukashenka, Petro Poroshenko assured that the Ukrainian party would bear responsibility if the concerns came true. “It was our decision on that,” Lukashenka said.

“Do not harm each other. You won't be able to deceive, dodge, handle the situation somehow. We have good specialists in Moldova, Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. Everything is calculated,” he noted.

Lukashenka emphasised that Belarus's agreements with Moldova could harm neither Russia nor Kazakhstan. “ We are not building our relations against anyone. We are creating them for the benefit of our nations instead of damaging someone,” the Belarusian ruler said.

Speaking about the conflict in Ukraine, Lukasenka said a war would not happen there. “No one needs it. A war begins if someone thinks he can win, but all those involved in the conflict are confident they cannot gain a victory: the Ukrainian army won't win, the resistance army, which exists there and is labeled separatists, won't win. Many thinks Russia fights there. But Russia did not fight. If it does, it won't win. It will only make everything worse,” Lukashenka said.

“No one will come to Belarus to fight”

“The least of our fears is that someone will come to Belarus tomorrow and begin a war. It won't happen,” the Belarusian ruler assured.

Lukashenka stressed Belarus would do its best to prevent a war in Ukraine. “It's not because it threatens Belarus or Moldova. Moldova has already drained the bitter cup. It became separated. It is our pain. We thank God that Belarus avoided it. We are doing our best for it not to happen. We are doing our best to prevent it. I guarantee that,” he stressed.

Speaking about the Ukrainian conflict Lukashenka emphasised that many efforts were recently made to solve it. “Hundreds of people were probably dying every day. No one knows the exact number, because many people were buried during the ceasefire,” Lukashenka said. “People were killing one another.”
