Establishment of the near-border territory would not have an impact on the life of Belarusian and Russian citizens.
A BelTA journalist was told so by the spokesperson of the State Border Committee of Belarus Alyaksandr Tishchanka.
“It is done in order to create conditions for work of border service agencies in this direction, for contraband control and so on,” the spokesperson said. He also noted that this move would allow improving the work of both Belarusian and Russian border guards, including their interaction. Besides, the novelty is to increase the level of border security of the “union state.”
According to reports, on September 4 Lukashenka signed a Decree #433 “On amending the Decree #125 as of March 9, 2009”, which envisages establishment of such a territory.
