Donald Tusk: One cannot trust terrorists, as Russia stands behind their back

Russia does not comply with obligations or honours agreements.

Poland’s Prime Minister, elected to the position of President of the European Council of the European Union, Donald Tusk cautiously evaluates the agreement on cease-fire in Donbas reached in Minsk today, and urges to wait for their realization, UNIAN informs.

“The Russian policy towards Ukraine was characterized by sharp changes of scenarios, failure to adhere to obligations or agreements. Let’s wait a little, to say convincingly that it is a pivotal moment,” Tusk said, PAP reports.

“We should be cautious in evaluation of this event,” he added, noting that one cannot give 100% of trust to anything signed by terrorists, while Russia stands behind their backs.

Tusk has also stated that he recently talked to Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko and the head of the Ukrainian government Arseniy Yatsenyuk, who to his mind demonstrated readiness for “rational and calm talks” concerning peace in Donbas.

“Ukrainian leaders are doing everything to bring war to an end,” Tusk said and expressed a hope that today’s agreements would really result in ending the war.

We remind that Poroshenko stated that a preliminary protocol to the cease-fire agreement was signed in Minsk. The document was signed at the meeting of the trilateral contact group. At the meeting in Minsk the OSCE was represented by Heidi Tagliavini, Ukraine by the former president Leonid Kuchma, Russia – by the Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov. The terrorists are represented by the self-proclaimed “prime minister” of the so-called “DNR” Alexander Zakharchenko. Later Poroshenko ordered the chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forced of Ukraine to cease fire in the zone of the Anti-Terrorist Operation today, starting from 6 p.m.
