EU leaders support the launch of counter RF's propaganda channel

The channel may start broadcasting in May.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said the European leaders he met in Paris supported the idea of establishing a European Russian-language TV channel to counter Russian propaganda. The channel may start broadcasting in May. The President said it during the meeting with Ukrainian community in Paris, Ukrinform reports.

"I talked to the majority of European leaders, so we could launch a pan-European Russian-language channel to counter Russian propaganda", the President of Ukraine said.

According to him, a new channel will have the opportunity to opposite the Russian propaganda throughout Europe. "Here is a lot of Russian-speaking citizens, millions of voters who get the information from sources and the Internet that are biased", he said.

Poroshenko noted that he was impressed with the support level among European leaders according the establishment a pan-European TV channel. "I hope that at the Summit of the Eastern Partnership in May this year, we will be able to make it operate", he added.

It will be recalled that the President Petro Poroshenko during a meeting with Edgars Rinkēvičs, the Foreign Minister of Latvia, stated that the establishment of the pan-European channel could be a practical result of the Riga Summit. In his view, it is essential to implement the initiative of a number of the EU countries and Ukraine on introduction of pan-European Russian-language channel as a source of unbiased information.
