NATO Secretary General: NATO is ready to consider Ukraine's bid to join the Alliance

To join the North Atlantic Alliance Ukraine will need to meet its standards.

Yesterday in Berlin Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary General, said it after talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, RBC-Ukraine writes.

"Of course, we will consider an application for membership in NATO of Ukraine, just as the application of any other candidate", Stoltenberg said.

He stressed so that to join NATO the country should meet the standards of the Alliance.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General called on Russia to stop assistance of separatists in Eastern Ukraine and abide Minsk agreements according the ceasefire in the Donbas region.

"NATO is committed to a constructive and partner relations with Russia. But in order to install them, Russia has also want this," Stoltenberg emphasized.
