Draft tax on “scroungers” to be changed

Officials plan to discuss the amended draft tax on “croungers” in a month.

Valery Mitskevich, the deputy head of Lukashenka's Administration, said to Komsomolskaya Pravda v Belarusi that the document would be changed significantly.

“Some principled issues will be changed,” he said.

– There are many questions regarding who can be considered to be housewives. Is this true that people with children won't be affected and those without children will have to pay the tax?

– “Won't be affected” is a rather primitive approach. We can now discuss only the old variant of the document. The government will work on the new variant. What concerns housewives, children and the age of children, changes are expected.

– 500,000 Belarusians are reported to work abroad. The World Bank says their number is one million.

– I don't know why the World Bank says it's one million. I'd like to know myself how many people work abroad.

– If people work abroad and visit Belarus, will they have to pay the tax?

– Different options exist. People work there and pay taxes there. There are interstate and international agreements. It is regulated by the law.
