Zmitser Bandarenka: I’m Taking My Hat Off To Students!
Zmitser Bandarenka

In the protest rally of students new leaders of democratic Belarus have come to light.

charter97.org website was told about that by the coordinator of the civil campaign European Belarus Zmitser Bandarenka, commenting on the students’ protest, Love and Solidarity March, held in central Minsk today:

– I want to express my respect to students. Their protest rally today deserves words of encouragement, as it was creative, quite unexpected, and at the same time well-prepared.

Once Soviet dissenters used in their struggle the fact that leaders of the Soviet Union had signed Helsinki Accords, in which they undertook commitments to respect human rights. Now Belarusian students can use in their struggle the fact that the Belarusian authorities have joined the Bologna process in the educational system. And these new opportunities in the sphere of the law should be used for defence of students and professors’ rights.

I want to say Belarusian students, who are to undergo pressure now: support each other, do not fear informants from the BRYU, they fear you more, and know that not only solidarity of all decent Belarusians, but international solidarity, including students’ solidarity, are on your side.

I am sure that new leaders of democratic Belarus have come to light, and I am sure that finally these leaders would be able to organise those most important, most significant protests of Belarus, which would help to return the country to the normal European path of development.

And today I am simply taking my Hat off to students,” – said Zmitser Bandarenka.

As we have informed, today, December 2, a students’ rally, Love and Solidarity March, was held in central Minsk.

More than 200 students demanded to abolish fees for resitting tests and exams, and a real students’ self-government.

Students marched from Mikhailauski Park to the main building of the BSU, where they held a performance with a demand to have a meeting with the rector Siarhei Ablameika. However, the rector feared to come out to the protesters.
