Jacek Saryusz-Wolski: Russian occupation of Donbas legitimized in Minsk

The agreements in Minsk do not guarantee peace, but just a ceasefire. But even it remains questionable.

European Christian Democrats are skeptical about the peace accords reached in Minsk on February 12. In particular, a Polish European deputy, deputy chairman of the Christian Democrats faction Jacek Saryusz-Wolski stated that they legitimize occupation of territories by Russia, and besides, there is no confidence that hostilities are to stop, Polskie Radio informs.

“It is not even a cautious optimism, it is pessimism open to question. Is it really a necessary compromise, or another attempt to buy time by Moscow. In reality, the question about real intentions remains: is it just a break, or a peace really? It looks as if this is a suspension of hostilities, but not a peaceful settlement,” Saryusz-Wolski said.

As said by the European deputy, during the summit in Brussels leaders of the European Union should demand respect to the terms of the treaty and exert pressure on Russia by new sanctions.

We remind that earlier in Minsk a trilateral group signed a document which envisages cease-fire on Saturday night, withdrawing of armaments, release of all hostages within 19 days, pullout of foreign troops from the territory of Ukraine.
