Mass exodus of MAZ workers

For three months now the plant has been working four days a week.

“The situation at the plant is horrible. There is not much work. Since December we work one shift, wages are low, we work four days a week. Most people are in search of a new employment,” they said.

We remind that for several month reports are received that enterprises are transferred to four- or three-days’ working week. Wages are paid incompletely or reduced, and besides workers are forced to take unpaid leaves.

A few days ago the presidium of the Belarusian Trade Union of industry summed up the results of work in 2014. In particular, it was stated that the number of workforce at industrial enterprises of Belarus decreased by more than 10,000. The industrial giants like Atlant, MAZ, Minsk motor plant and Barysau-based Avtogidrousilitel plant lost the greatest number of workers. Audit was held in 173 entities, 1,184 violations of the labour laws were detected. It was said by the chief labour inspector of the Belarusian Trade Union of Industrial Workers, Ivan Tsypko.
