Grzegorz Schetyna: Peace talks on Donbas issue reached a deadlock

Peace talks on Donbas issue have reached a deadlock.

It was stated by Grzegorz Schetyna, the head of the Foreign Ministry of Poland, during a joint briefing with German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Warsaw, segodnya.ua reports with reference to polskieradio.

We all see that peace talks have reached a deadlock. Nevertheless, we will accept and support every new initiative to resolve this complex issue", Schetyna said.

"We want both an affective policy and diplomacy, as well as to jointly put an end to this conflict. Collaborative efforts, particular attention, compliance with the common European position, the preservation of European solidarity, and taking effective decisions on the other hand are above all today", he said.

Frank-Walter Steinmeier, in his turn, emphasized, despite different approaches, the EU countries had constantly managed to adopt a common position regarding the events in eastern Ukraine.

"We tried various diplomatic means to de-escalate the conflict, but the truth is that it resulted a bitter setback", it was mentioned by the Head of German diplomacy, speaking about the recent shelling of Mariupol and a hospital in Donetsk.

He assesses the situation as a return "to the sharp conflict." "People are dying again, once again civilians became victims of separatists' attempts to expand their influence," he said. He also added it seemed like they were supported by Russia.

It is known, currently there is the US Secretary of State in Kiev to discuss with the leadership of the country the situation in eastern Ukraine. The arrival of the president of France and German chancellor to Kiev is expected on Thursday at about 5 pm. Tomorrow the leaders of France and Germany will visit Moscow.
