Homel ideologists ban rally to support independence

The local authorities of Homel rejected the proposal of democratic activists to hold a rally to support the independence of Belarus.

Uladzimir Katsora, one of the initiators, says the rally is needed as a response to a wave of propaganda of the Russian media, which doubt the sovereignty of our country, Radio Ratsyja reports.

“The ideological department of the regional executive committee replied to Vasil Paliakou's and my proposal to hold a joint rally to respond to the political forces and political leaders of Russia who say that Belarus's eastern regions have never been Belarusian and must join Russia. We received an answer from the ideological department of the regional executive committee, saying that they don't see grounds to assess such threats, because there are no threats. If you disagree, you can go to a court,” the activist says.

Uladzimir Katsora does not rule out that representatives of Homel democratic forces will file an application for a picket for Belarus's independence in accordance with legislation.
