Alyaksei Yanukevich: Moscow is centre of Lukashenka’s universe

Lukashenka views Russia as the only ally who could guarantee him retention of power.

The chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front party Alyaksei Yanukevich comments to Radio Svaboda statements of Alyaksandr Lukashenka, who has said: “We are a part of the Russian world”, “We are going to come to Moscow and show that we are the Russian world”, “Russian people have done a great contribution for us to have a national culture”, which have been heard during the address of the dictator to the Belarusian nation and the “parliament.”

“Such statements by Alyaksandr Lukashenka have been heard more than once. In fact, it is a continuation of the thesis “Belarusians are the same [people] as Russians, but with a high-quality mark.” Unfortunately, Alyaksandr Lukashenka in reasoning in the context of Moscow as a centre of the universe, to which he has an absolutely positive attitude, and which is the only option for him to maintain the economic model he has created.”
