BCD expects to be included in Guinness World Records

The Belarusian Christian Democracy party has been denied registration for far-fetched reasons a record high number of times.

Activists note that the last time when a political party was registered in Belarus was 15 years ago, Radio Racyja reports.

“We want the authorities to take seriously our suggestion to work in the legal framework,” Heorhy Dzmitruk, a co-head of the BCD organising committee, says. “The state should stop putting pressure and start using legal means, it is very important for us. It is very important for us to reach a new level of relations with the state. We would like to attract attention to us, you may even call it a protest action, because the basic rights of political parties and organisations are being violated. They have not been able to pass registration for almost 20 years.”

BCD has been denied registration four times. None of regional organisations were registered. The party will invite representatives of Guinness World Records to the convention on June 13. It plans to submit an application for the category “the highest number of denials of a party's registration”.
