Belarus is in list of top ten worst countries for worker

Belarus is in top ten worst countries for working people, according to the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).

Such information is contained in the 2015 ITUC’s Global Rights Index, presented by the ITUC on June 10, at the 104th session of the International Trade Union Confederation in Geneva. The results of the survey have been also published on the website of the All-European regional Council of the ITUC, charter97.org was informed by the press-service of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade unions.

Besides Belarus, among the worst countries are also ranked Guatemala, Egypt, Qatar, China, Colombia, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Swaziland.

In the general list of workers rights’ protection Belarus is on the 12th position out of 141, and is ranked in the 5th category out of 6, as a state where worker rights are not guaranteed. 27 countries of Asia, Africa, Central and South America, the Pacific Region and Europe, in particular, Belarus, Ukraine and Greece, are entered in this category.

The most favourable situation in the sphere of labour rights protection is in 16 countries, including Finland and Uruguay. In 2015 just individual cases of rights violations were observed there. In 26 countries, including Ireland and Japan, workers’ rights were violated repeatedly. Collective labour rights were regularly violated in 36 countries, including Australia and Israel. Systematic violations of rights have been reported in 27 countries including Poland and the USA. A catastrophic situation is observed in 9 countries, including Syria, Central African Republic and Palestine. Labour rights are not guaranteed there as the system of rule of law is not functioning.

The International Trade Union Confederation has been collecting data on labour rights violations worldwide for more than 30 years. This year for the second time the ITUC presented the results of the survey as a global index, which ranks countries according to 97 indicators, and considers the level of labour rights protection at the level of legislation and in practice. This survey is intended for businessmen and government.
