Siarhei Antusevich: State-controlled trade unions are attempt to create totalitarian organisation
Siarhei Antusevich

State-controlled trade unions at plants are an attempt to create a totalitarian organisation.

Aliaksandr Lukashenka ordered to form a state-controlled trade unions at every plant. The dictator wants trade unions to work at companies of any form of ownership.

According to Siarhei Antusevich, the deputy head of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions, state-controlled trade unions at plants are an attempt to create a totalitarian organisation, Radio Racyja reports.

“This is in fact the last stage of making all trade unions state-controlled and turning official trade unions into a totalitarian organisation that can hardly be called a trade union. He said he was the only one who protects the rights of workers. The rest things they will deal with are recreation issues and minor economic issues, nothing else.”

According to Siarhei Antusevich, trade unions must be formed voluntary rather than forcefully by order from above. Siarhei Antusevich had led the independent trade union at Hrodna's largest plant GrodnoAzot and knows all details of the situation.
