The Belarusians buy up goods in the markets of Chernihiv

Prices in Ukraine are twice less. Thousands of Belarusians rushed for goods.

Market and distribution centers of Chernihiv are almost the most popular placers for the Belarusians, who arrive here mostly from Homel region.

What do local businessmen think about guests? Do the Belarusians always behave decently?

Ukrainian correspondent of Radio Racyja Martin Voina asked Chernihiv dwellers in the Central market.

- Why do you think there are so many Belarusians in the Chernihiv markets? What do you think about them?

- They, perhaps, come here because of lower prices. Belarusian salaries are higher than that in Ukraine. They buy both food and manufactured goods. People from Minsk region also arrive here. I think the Belarusians love the Ukrainians, respect us and wish us all the best, Oksana Vasilievna, the owner of fancy shop, says.

- Do the Belarusians really consider Chernihiv prices lower?

- Opinions differ. Perhaps, it depends on the region they come from. But for the Belarusians, the situation would be worse. I heard nothing bad about us. They are good livers, Andrei, a footwear seller, says.

- Are there any conflicts with them?

- On the one hand, they are always welcome. Besides, they bring profit. On the other, some of them arrive here with "St. George Ribbons". These are the ribbons of people who are fighting against Ukraine. 150 people have already died in Chernihiv region. There are friends and relatives of those, who work in the markets. They definitely have a negative reaction on the people wearing them, Alexander Yasenchuk, coordinator of Chernihiv Self-defence of the Maidan, notes.

According to statistics, last year 90% of all foreigners in Chernihiv were the Belarusians. At the beginning of the year, our countrymen, frightened by information on Russian TV channels "about Banderites" scarcely appear in Chernihiv. Now there are more guests: people give more faith to what they see, but not the propaganda.
