Mass layoff at Avtogydrousilitel plant: 700 employees dismissed

The plant works three days a week and has a huge wage debt.

Barysau-based Avtogydrousilitel plant is going to lay off 700 workers. The scale of the staff reduction appears to be even larger because the plant plans to dismiss all pensioners and not to prolong contracts with the workers whose employment contracts expire in 2015. The plant has a staff of 2,500-3000, and only 1,000-1,500 employees will continue working after mass reductions, Belorusskaya Pravda reports.

Avtogydrousilitel has been working three days a week for a long time. The plant has a huge wage debt.

Aliaksandr Bukhvostau, the head of the Free Trade Union of Metal Workers, supposes that the reason for problems at the plant is the fact that Russia refused to buy its products..

“The plant makes car parts and hydraulic systems for vehicles, including Russian ones. Perhaps, Russia reduces orders, because Russian plants begin to work. The Belarusian plants that earlier worked for Russia begin to collapse,” he said.
