The head of the National Bank of Belarus dreams of oil prices to be higher than $ 50 and the growth of China's GDP.

Director of the Research Center of the Institute of Privatization and Management Aliaksandr Chubryk gave an interesting quote of Head of the National Bank of Belarus Pavel Kallaur in a speech at the Russian Economic Challenge conference.

The chief banker of the country stated quite frankly, which is not typical of our senior executives, in an interview to Financial Times: “Every morning I look at the church and think: ”Dear God, let it all be well in Russia. Let the oil price be above $ 50 next year. Let the Chinese GDP grow by more than 6.5%. Everyday.”

“On the one hand, Kallaur’s pleadings are understandable,” – Salidarnasts journalist Mikhail Broshyn writes.

“It’s the Kremlin subsidies (oil and gas at prices well below the world ones) allowed Belarus to have relatively comfortable life for many years. Now when the Russian economy is in crisis, the subsidies to Minsk have been cut. The vast majority of Belarusians have already experienced that on their own pockets.

On the other hand, it is extremely sad that all the hopes for the better the chairman of the National Bank puts upon anyone – with God, with Russia, with China – but not upon the ruling team. However, this is a realistic view of things. For who but Kallaur it is to know that a permanent crisis is almost inevitable under the current governance in Belarus.

Except perhaps s a major field of oil or gas is suddenly found under Drazdy, or aliens land and grant us 999 billion dollars, or another miracle happen – then we will, of course, prosper. There is nothing to count on with Lukashenka,” – the journalist resumes.
