The trial against the activists has been postponed as the judge needed an interpreter from the native language.

Activists Uladzimir Hundar and Yury Kazakevich from Baranavichy are standing trial for breaking the law “On Mass Events”. The activists went out to the city center carrying a white-red-white poster with a message on the 98th anniversary of the declaration of independence of the Belarusian People’s Republic, and a poster of solidarity with Ukraine “Together – To Better Destiny”, on March 25, informs intex-press.by.

– I demanded that the judge should speak Belarusian with me. She asked “Do you need an interpreter?” I said “No”. She postponed the trial till May 13 as she needed to find an interpreter”, – Uladzimir Hundar has told.

According to him, this confirms that the state official doesn’t speak the native language of the country. However, the Constitution prescribes that she is obliged to know both state languages.

– Such attitude to the native language is a disgrace, – Uladzimir Hundar thinks.

The activist says the witnesses – two policemen – haven’t appeared in court. They referred to being busy at work. However, Uladzimir Hundar says the key reason for postponing the trial has become the absence of an interpreter.

The next trial has been appointed on May 13.
