Exhibition Dedicated To Famous Painting By Malevich Was Hastily Closed In Minsk

What was the reason?

In Minsk, the exhibition dedicated to the 110th anniversary of Kazimir Malevich’s Black Square was closed three days after the opening.

"Dear visitors! For technical reasons, the 1.10 Square exhibition is temporarily closed," the message appeared on the Facebook page of the Palace of Arts on February 3. What caused the interruption of the exhibition and whether it will resume work is not specified.

The opening of the 1.10 Square exhibition took place on February 1. It was supposed to work until March 3.

The exhibition was dedicated to the most famous painting by Kazimir Malevich. The exhibition presented works by contemporary Belarusian authors interested in the work of avant-garde artists of the early twentieth century. "This is a tribute to the great destroyer of traditions Kazimir Malevich, an attempt to expand our experience by adding our own piece to the tenth part of the square, and thereby expand our limits of searching for new meanings in familiar things," the announcement of the event reads.

A native of Ukraine, Kazimir Malevich belonged to the Vitebsk school of painting of the first quarter of the 20th century.

This is the second exhibition that was hastily closed for viewers in a week. On February 2, it became known about the closure of the exhibition dedicated to the centenary of the birth of People's Writer of Belarus Vasil Bykau, which opened on January 25 at the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature.
